Description

5(S)-HETE is a product of the arachidonic acid metabolism lipoxygenase pathway. It is chemotactic and chemokinetic for human neutrophils, the most abundant white blood cells of the mammalian immune system. It has been shown to elevate cytosolic Ca2+, inducing protein kinase C mobilization and thus influencing neutrophil function. It has been observed to stimulate the release of lysozymes from polymorphonuclear leukocytes. It has also been observed to stimulate the release of beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase from polymorphonuclear leukocytes.
