PGH2 (Prostaglandin H2), a precursor for the 2-series thromboxanes and prostaglandins, is a potent platelet aggregator of vascular smooth muscle contraction. PGH2 is also an inhibitor of platelet TXA synthase (thromboxane synthase). In the rabbit pulmonary artery PGH2 activated the stretch induced contraction of rabbit pulmonary artery. At an IC50 at 10-25 ng/ml in the isolated rat fat cell PGH2 inhibited the accumulation of noradrenaline induced cyclic AMP.
Soluble in 9:1 hexane : isopropyl alcohol, ethanol (~100 mg/ml), PBS (pH 7.2) (~2 mg/ml), DMSO, and methanol.
