Description

(±)-Blebbistatin is a 1-phenyl-2-pyrrolidinone derivative, which acts as a selective inhibitor of nonmuscle myosin II ATPase and several striated muscle myosins, while reversibly blocking cell blebbing and disrupting cytokinesis via ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. In addition, (±)-Blebbistatin inhibits the contraction of the cleavage furrow without disrupting contractile ring assembly or mitosis. Studies using a Boyden chamber assay show that (±)-Blebbistatin, a 1-phenyl-2-pyrrolidinone derivative, inhibits cellular migration and invasiveness. Alternative studies indicate that (±)-Blebbistatin can effectively uncouple the excitation-contraction process in zebrafish hearts. Furthermore, (±)-Blebbistatin suppresses contraction and disrupts contractile filament organization.
