Description

Xanthorrhizol is an antibacterial and antiinflammatory compound that can induce apoptosis and inhibit Cox-2 and NOS2. Research shows that xanthorrhizol has calcium antagonist activity, which may be due to blockage of voltage operated calcium influx in myometrial cells. The xanthorrhizol compound can increase p53 and protein Bax expression in HeLa cells and induce apoptosis in HepG2 cells. Data has shown decrease in protein expression of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and mitogen activated protein kinases in the presence of xanthorrhizol.
