Description

Trinactin is a hydrophobic cyclic ester that acts as a macrotetrolide antibiotic, isolated from Streptomyces aureus. Steady-state ion transport studies demonstrate that Trinactin behaves as an univalent cation cyclicly carrier. Trinactin has been shown to block incorporation of 3H-thymidine into lymphocytes treated with Concanavalin A and is a homolog of Nonactin. Additionally, metabolic studies show that Trinactin has induced damped oscillatory mitochondrial swelling.
