Description

Quinomycin A is a cyclodepsipeptide metabolite of the quinoxaline family that exhibits various antibiotic, antiviral, and antitumor activity. Quinomycin A has been demonstrated to bind strongly to DNA at sites containing the central two-base-pair sequence 5'-CG-3'. Quinomycin A was observed to induce apoptosis in human colon cancer cells (HT-29) with activity associated with cytochrome c release and stimulations of ERK and caspase-3. Quinomycin A reportedly inhibits HIF by blocking binding of HIF-1α and HIF-1β proteins to a HRE sequence, and by blocking hypoxic induction of luciferase in U251-HRE cells and VEGF mRNA expression in U251 cells.
