Safety & Transport Information
Dangerous fire hazard by chemical reaction. Ignites spontaneously in air. Moderate explosion hazard when exposed to heat or by chemical reaction. Will react with water, steam, or acids to produce H2 which then ignites. Can react vigorously with oxidizing materials. To fight fire, use CO2, dry chemical. Potentially explosive reactions with o-2,4-dinitrophenylhydroxylamine, fluoroalkenes. Ignites on contact with air, oxygen + moisture, fluorine. Incompatible with Cl2, acetic acid, acrolein, acrylonitrile, (CaC + Cl2), ClO2, (H2O2 + Cl2), (CHFl3 + CH3OH), 1,2-dichloroethylene, maleic anhydride, (n-methyl-n-nitrosourea + CH2Cl2), nitroethane, NCl3, nitromethane, nitroparaffins, o-nitrophenol, nitropropane, n-nitrosomethylurea, (nitrosomethylurea + CH2Cl2), H2O, trichloroethylene, tetrahydrofuran, tetrachlorethane. When heated to decomposition it emits highly toxic fumes of K2O. See also POTASSIUM and HYDRIDES.
Safety Codes:
S16 - Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking
S26 - In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice
S27 - Take off immediately all contaminated clothing
S36/37/39 - Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection
S43 - In case of fire use ... (indicate in the space the precise type of fire-fighting equipment. If water increases the risk add - Never use water)
S45 - In case of accident or if you feel unwell seek medical advice immediately (show the label where possible)
