Potassium ferrate(VI)

Potassium ferrate(VI) is a paramagnetic salt that is a rare iron (VI) compound. It is a powerful oxidizing agent that has relatively non-harmful environmentally hazardous by-products after its use, leading to a strong potential in the field of “green chemistry”. In organic synthesis it has been shown to oxidize primary alcohols. It is also known as a potential cathode material in a “super iron battery” although research is still being done in this matter.
