Description

Palmitoyl-N-isopropylamide is an inhibitor of the FAAH (fatty acid amide hydrolase). Studies suggest that Palmitoyl-N-isopropylamide shows minimal binding to CB1 and CB2 receptors. In addition, Palmitoyl-N-isopropylamide inhibits [3H]-fatty acid amide anandamide (AEA) uptake into c6 and RBL-2H3 cells. Palmitoyl-N-isopropylamide functions similarly to AM-404 in inhibiting the formation of [3H]-ethanolamine from [3H]-AEA. Researchers suggest that Palmitoyl-N-isopropylamide can be a useful template for designing compounds that reduce the cellular accumulation and metabolism of AEA because the compound does not affect CB1 and CB2 receptors.
