Description
Okadaic Acid, Ammonium Salt, a toxin originally derived from Halichondria okadai, has been reported to have a relatively high specificity for PP1, PP2A, and polycation-modulated phosphatases. The mechanistic studies show that this is achieved by the compound's non-competitive or mixed inhibition of the okadaic acid-sensitive enzymes. Additional experiments have noted Okadaic Acid to induce ornithine decarboxylase in mouse skin and be a non-phorbol-12-tetradecanoate-13-acetate-type tumor promoter in murine skin carcinogenesis. Okadaic Acid displays the capacity to inhibit insulin secretion induced by ketoisocaproate, high K+, and Tolbutamide, via suppression of the magnitude of Ca2+ signal in β cells. Okadaic Acid, Ammonium Salt is an activator of PKC ζ, PKC ι and PKC λ. Okadaic Acid, Ammonium Salt is an inhibitor of PP1 and PP2A.
