Meloxicam sodium salt hydrate has been shown to abolish thymulin-induced increases of cytokines and NGF in the liver of rats and displays tumor growth suppression. Meloxicam may be capable of antagonizing cachexia in vitro. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that shows 300-fold selectivity for Cox-2 (cyclooxygenase-2) inhibition versus Cox-1(cyclooxygenase-1) inhibition.
