Description

MeBIO is an analog of 6-bromoindirubin-3'-oxime (BIO), which acts as an aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonist. MeBIO inhibits the phosphorylation of Tyr276/216, the active site on the enzyme GSK-3α/β, which suppresses the activity of the ezyme. GSK-3 is a serine/threonine protein kinase which inactivates glycogen synthase and mediates the phosphorylation of specific amino acids that contain serine and threonine. Studies indicate that MeBIO and other indirubins are beneficial tools, along with lithium and kenpaullone to study the cellular functions of GSK-3. MeBIO acts as a weak antagonist against CDK1/Cyclin B and CDK5/p25 activity.
