Mead Acid Methyl Ester is an unsaturated fatty acid that has had a role as a precursor in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, leukotrienes and thromboxanes. It has been reported that the presence of the compound may be responsible in the prevention of calcification of fetal cartilage. Mead Acid Methyl Ester has also been observed as a general lipoxygenase inhibitor.
Soluble in ethanol, acetone, hexane, DMSO (~100 mg/ml), DMF (~100 mg/ml), and 0.1 M Na2CO3 (1 mg/ml). Insoluble in water.
