Description

Glycerophospho-N-oleoyl ethanolamine is the precursor of the cannabinoid compound oleoyl ethanolamide (OEA). OEA is an potent, endogenous agonist for PPARα (EC₅₀ = 120 nM). Systemic administration of OEA has been shown to suppress appetite and reduce weight gain in rats (10 mg/kg intraperitoneally) and PPARα wild-type mice, but not in PPARα knockout mice. OEA is metabolized by fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH).
