1-O-Dodecyl-rac-glycerol

1-O-Dodecyl-rac-glycerol is an antibacterial agent known to stimulate autolysin activity. This autolysin stimulation is possibly a primary mechanism by which dodecylglycerol exerts its antibacterial activity. It has been found to potently stimulate macrophages. 1-O-Dodecyl-rac-glycerol has been reported to be quickly absorbed in the intestine and incorporated into ether glycerolipids of tissues and organs. It has been shown to be a specific and potent inhibitor of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate-mediated arachidonic acid release. The ability of 1-O-Dodecyl-rac-glycerol to regulate this signalling pathway suggests its potential bioregulatory role as a protein kinase C inhibitor.
