Description

N-Desmethyl Diltiazem Hydrochloride is a metabolite of Diltiazem, a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. Studies show that N-Desmethyl Diltiazem Hydrochloride selectively inhibits CYP3A4. This enzyme is useful in a variety of cellular reactions such as the oxidation of xenobiotics. In addition, N-Desmethyl Diltiazem Hydrochloride inhibits testosterone 6β-hydroxylation which is mediated by CYP3A4. Although Diltiazem acts as an inhibitor of CYP3A4, it can also be metabolized by the enzyme. It is known that Diltiazem acts as a vasodilator increasing blood flow around peripheral and coronary vessels.
