1-Deoxynojirimycin Hydrochloride is a glucose analog and "saccharide decoy" that inhibits α-glucosidase I and II activity. 1-Deoxynojirimycin is described to inhibit HIV-1 spread in cultured HIV-infected lymphocytes. 1-Deoxynojirimycin is demonstrated to enhance the expression of adiponectin mRNA, increase plasma adiponectin levels, and enhance expression of AMPK mRNA in rats, supporting reports that 1-Deoxynojirimycin suppresses postprandial blood glucose increases in humans. 1-Deoxynojirimycin Hydrochloride is an inhibitor of LYAG and β-glucosidase.
