Description

Cochliodinol is an antibiotic metabolite of Chaetomium cochliodes and C. globosum. Shown to inhibit the metabolism and growth of a variety of bacterial genera. Also shown to inhibit some species from many genera of microfungi. Cochliodinol is the first reported asterriquinone structure isolated from Chaetomium species. Asterriquinone is an antitumor metabolite, and thus cochliodinol has been reported to exhibit antitumor activity.
