Description

Cholesterol-d7 is a label form of cholesterol which can be incorporated into cell membranes and transported in blood plasma. Cholesterol is a steroid metabolite which maintains cell fluidity by its incorporation into the cell membrane. Cholesterol functions by interacting with the polar head groups of phospholipids and sphingolipids on cell membranes which increase membrane fluidity, allowing hydrogen ions and sodium ions to flow across the membrane. In addition, the non-polar region of the molecule is embedded into the membrane. It is known that cholesterol is used to produce bile acids, steroid hormones, and Vitamin D.
