Description

Amthamine is a highly selective histamine H2 receptor agonist, devoid of stimulatory activity at H1 and H3 receptors. Being very similar to histamine, its mechanism of action is to inhibit receptor -mediated eosinophil peroxidase. It induces a dose-dependent increase in gastric acid secretion and is a superior alternative to other H2 agonists for the study of gastric acid secretion. Amthamine has been shown to suppress the release of serotonin and has been used to study the involvement of H1 and H2 receptors on ion secretion.
