1-Aminocyclobutane-trans-1,3-dicarboxylic acid is a potent, competitive and selective inhibitor of glutamate transporter (EAAT). Certain confusion exists over the naming of this compound because of apparent contradictions in the literature. This is the isomer which has the carboxylic acid and the amino groups on the same side. This confusion most likely stems from the difficulty in assigning priority to the functional groups: Cis/Trans nomenclature puts priority on the longest carbon chain, whereas other priority assignments typically follow Cahn/Ingold priority rules.
